To the coming parade of big name Republican revanchists collecting mega-dollars across our fair regions. Especially, to the followers of the former Gov. Sarah Palin, Fox News employee, who tours this weekend, May 1st – 2nd, 2010 (adding to her $20 million yearly income) both Independence, Mo. And Wichita, Ks.
And to those disabled and in need of a public education in Kansas, without a prayer, about to be thrown out onto the Kansas streets, at the mercy of “charity.”

A number of elite-financed “Tea Party” gatherings across the state are visible and loudly reported in the local media, fomented by a dwindling number of old sourpusses from the white middle class, largely against taxing the same “free market” millionaires selling them the same old snake poison, who swallow white Christian nationalism as a cure-all medicinal, but that may be, only for the present.
They largely represent the “old” Kansas of the last thirty or more years since the astrologically-advised President Ronald Reagan became a senile sock-puppet for the religious hyenas of empire. Smart conservatives started leaving the Kansas Republican Party back then.
Whole decades of reactionary religious slogans have plagued the state’s reputation, too frequently in the voices of a loud minority of powerful political demagogues.
Kansans have ran to the pulpit thunder through a gamut of intolerant bigotry; “God Hates Fags”, “the Bible is against teaching evolution in our public schools” and perhaps the most vulgar, a deeply entrenched anti-woman “pro-life” bunch of hypocrites, a powerful and murderous group, overwhelmingly white and supportive of every bloody (and deficit delivering) military intervention abroad since Vietnam.
Could it be that since the church-killing of Dr. George Tiller last year, a few independent intelligent conservatives quietly aided by many democratic progressives in the state started a rally against the deadly demagogues’ designs?
Signs of intelligent designs in the Kansas legislature might be forthcoming, but like the state’s motto “ad astra per aspera” (to the stars through struggle) the epic story of the Free State is guaranteed to be as locals joke, “no cakewalk.”
It might be too early to read the tea leaves, but there are some signs at the bottom of the legislature’s annual cup, in the form of a battle over further inhumane (dare we say “un-Christian”) cuts to public education and social services in Kansas.
Not the Americans’ for Prosperity cup of tea – but the Green Tea of the Progressive Populists?
A determined section of smart Kansans are emerging into public view, and are beginning to act; around free public education, sustainable clean energy policies, and social rehabilitative and widespread public health services alongside local green food autonomy. People are heated up on these issues, but will they come out and pound the election polls with enough fury to force these issues beyond policy and into the sunlight on the sidewalk?
Fundamentally the widespread hot anger must be directed against the Kansans’ most responsible, the incumbent federal congressional delegates; Sen. Sam Brownback, Sen. Pat Roberts, Rep. Todd Tiahrt, Rep. Jerry Moran and those on both sides of the aisle who mouth more messages of misery, without listening to the peoples’ solutions. This is the kind of heat that is starting the drive to the top of this new populist cup of green tea.
With more budget-busting federal military interventions abroad in store, the state’s dominant political leaders have Kansans as permanently oil-addicted, or as heavily subsidized and tax sheltered capitalists and corn farmers. They have yet to hear our tea kettles scream, or for that matter the roar of our electoral guns, with the exception of a few lone voices coming from the Kansas senate.
Tom Holland, Chris Steineger and U. S. senate candidate Charles Schullenburger, are listening to us, and when given a podium have much to say about solutions in Kansas, a possible green tea of progressive populism.
Don’t underestimate the once proud Free State’s legacy – it predestined a national Civil War. Ironically, this time around, the state’s founding “Party of Lincoln” (now completely bleached of any legacy of the then Afro-American leader Fredrick Douglas) could very quickly fall into total ruin and obscurity.
Perhaps it is fitting and best that intelligent and independent conservatives point the spear head and act with others to mercifully euthanize the Kansas Republican Party, by aiding and abetting, any and all desiring to throw out the deeply entrenched incumbent congressional leaders who made the state, lately and wrongfully, into a national laughingstock of Know Nothing hypocrites.
The Do-Nothings still sit squarely in the Republican dominated chambers of the state legislature, who with all the guile of egg robbing bobcats, have pushed current Gov. Parkinson into a regressive taxation policy.
