An interview for the Ages, A Montagnard for Human Liberty? Lew Rockwell buries William F. Buckely, Jr. with grace.

Clearing the smoke after the Ron Paul movement campaign?

I have one of the most skeptical opinions of the political current called "Libertarian." I come from a socialist perspective a harrowing experience of idealistic utopian schemes, that seem to always turn into it's opposite. After listening to the mysterious Lew Rockwell, one has a much better idea and happily there is room for unity with it.

Where did these "libertarians" come from, the political trend Mr. Rockwell dangerously places it as far back as the "Left" aisle of the assembly before the French Revolution. I like that he said it, for individual human liberty deserves it's place in that Age that destroyed the Monarchist diseases that plagued all humanity for centuries before.

This interview may be the best I've heard of the Lew Rockwell and his brand of politics. "Old Right" American conservatism is such a slippery term nowdays that to listen to host Scott Horton and Mr. Rockwell dissect the history of the term, makes one dizzy, but when defining the war-like nature of imperialism - there is clearly a place on the barricades for this kind of "radical capitalism."

I will not mince words - the rising New Isolationists [my word - no insult intended at all] represents one of the most dynamic mass movements since the progressivists of the late 1800s and pre-World War I years. A movement in rebellion against the "Gilded Age." Note the portion where Rockwell discusses the economic aftermath of WWII in the year of 1946 where he claims a national economic growth of 30% occured.

Nevertheless, this discussion will help anyone looking to explore the historical origins of the new revolutionary trends in "Libertarianism" today, after the historic campaign of conscience raising by Texas Congressman Ron Paul. Too bad we must wait for Chalmers Johnson, a hint of what he is saying is located here.

Ps. Check out what the distinguished Dr. Paul Craig Roberts wrote in the comment section below the fold from the Anti-war web page!

Paul Craig Roberts Says: March 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 am

"What is going to destroy the libertarian message, unfortunately, is offshoring of US production for US markets, which is destroying US job opportunities and the tax base of many communities, transferring US labor income to corporate fat cats and shareholders, busting unions as a countervailing power, and preventing any real income gains for the majority of the American people. Libertarians have unconsciously positioned themselves as favoring freedom for capital at the expense of labor. Libertarians are seen as partisans for capital freedom at all cost. The dismantling of the ladders of upward mobility in the US limits the ability of the libertarians to reach the majority of the American people who are under tremendous economic pressure. This is unfortunate, because it is an ideological blindness not based in fact, and it will cost America its liberty."
